A Transient Ischemic Attack(TIA) is a sudden loss of function due to a temporary blockage in a blood vessel that supplies the brain with blood and oxygen. In this animation, fatty deposits (plaque) in the carotid artery of the neck is reducing blood flow to the brain. A rupture in the plaque can cause a blood clot to form, and part of it breaks off and travels up into a brain artery, blocking blood flow temporarily. When the blood flow is restored, brain function will usually return to normal.
