In this medical malpractice case there was a failure to diagnose an anterior accessory placental lobe. This placental lobe was attached to the main posterior placenta by blood vessels that crossed the internal cervical os. During labor, these blood vessels ruptured causing maternal blood loss and fetal hypoxia. A combination of actual fetal ultrasound and clear color illustration was used to explain the condition and its complications.
