CPR: Chest Compression

CPR, or cardiopulmonary resuscitation, is a technique of mainting air exchange in the lungs and blood flow in the circulation following an “arrest”. An “arrest” means the individual is no longer breathing or their heart has stopped beating effectively. During CPR, “breathing” is provided with techniques such as mouth to mouth breathing or with special breathing equipment. Circulation is maintained with chest compressions. Classes to teach CPR are widely available. The technique is not difficult to learn and may help save a life.
