Stress Echo

A stress echo, also called an exercise heart ultrasound is used to evaluate heart function by combining an exercise stress test with a heart ultrasound.

During the exercise stress test a person walks on a treadmill or pedals a stationary bicycle while hooked up to equipment that monitors the heart. The test monitors heart rate, breathing, blood pressure, electrical activity, and the person’s level of tiredness.

This test uses non-invasive heart ultrasound to take videos of the heart before, during, and immediately following exercise.

Ultrasound pictures of the heart at rest are compared with images of the heart during and after exercise to evaluate how the heart responds to exercise.

This test shows if the heart’s blood supply is sufficient and if the heart rhythm is normal.
