Blood Flow

Blood Flow occurs simultaneously through both the right and left side of the heart in a specific pattern. First unoxygenated blood returns from the body to the right atria while oxygenated blood from the lungs goes to the left atria. Blood is then pumped through the atrioventricular (AV) valves to the right and left ventricles. The AV valves close when the ventricles are full. The ventricles then contract to pump the blood through the semilunar valves to the lungs by the right ventricle and to the body by the left ventricle.
