Transcatheter Pulmonary Valve Replacement

A transcatheter pulmonary valve replacement is a device that replaces a stenotic or malfunctioning pulmonary valve. A balloon catheter with a collapsed replacement valve is inserted into an incision in the groin. The catheter is guided into the right heart and into the pulmonary outflow tract. The balloon catheter is inflated, expanding the replacement valve inside the pulmonary valve. The balloon catheter is removed, leaving the replacement valve in place.
