This malpractice case involved the incorrect placement of a percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy tube which resulted in postoperative infections and multiple surgeries to correct an enterocutaneous fistula.  The faults in the surgeons techniques included a failure to transilluminate the stomach through the abdominal wall, injury to the colon caused by the failed gastrostomy tube placement, failure to close defects in the transverse colon, and failure to place proper retention sutures following surgery.
