An angiogram is a test that takes X-ray pictures of blood vessels while injecting X-ray contrast (“dye”). A coronary angiogram is a way of looking at the blood vessels of the heart (the coronary arteries) using this technique. The contrast is injected into the coronary arteries using a catheter; a long, thin, hollow tube that is introduced into the circulation and guided to the heart with X-rays. This is done to look for blockages.
