The retina is the light sensitive inner layer of the eye. It receives light that passes through the cornea, pupil and lens. The retina has photoreceptor cells that detect light. There are two types of photoreceptors called rods and cones. These photoreceptors send signals to other cells in the retina which send signals to the brain through the optic nerve.
