Contact lenses are corrective, synthetic lenses that are placed over the cornea of the eye. They are lightweight and virtually invisible and serve as an alternative to conventional corrective glasses. Contacts can be either of the soft type or rigid gas permeable (hard), depending on the patients particular vision needs. Contact lenses are inserted with the concave side of the lens facing outward, toward the cornea. Contact lenses adjust incoming light and focus it correctly on the retina, in order to correct vision problems.
